You need not go further … you need Quality AND you need Quantity when it comes to Backlinks.
Backlinks are links that originate outside of your website but point directly to your website. Backlinks can be purchased. Backlinks can be just signed-up for by filling in a form on several thousand different directory sites. However, the Backlinks that are the most valuable, the Backlinks that really make a difference in SEO results are Backlinks that are neither easy to get nor are simply purchased; they are earned, almost always through the recognition received by producing great content. Sites will not link to you unless you are providing something unique, something of value in the form of new content. Good Content can come in many forms i.e. articles, press releases, blog posts, videos, images, cartoons et al. The content must be unique, non-duplicate content.
It is also not enough to just add this great content to your website. The content needs to be promoted, generally through syndication efforts. Sources of syndication are almost countless but include online publishers, press release sites, social bookmarking, social media sites and much more. The quality of your backlinks is mainly determined by the quality or the authority quotient of the website that is linking to you … one of the main measures of authority of a website is Google PageRank. The higher the page rank, the higher the quality of the Backlink.
However, never forget that you are in competition with the best because those on page 1 are by default, the best; and they didn’t get there by accident. More than likely they have their share of Backlinks. Further, Google PageRank follows an 10 point system from 0 to 10. And relatively speaking, there are very few websites above PageRank 6. So obviously getting Backlinks from these high quality sites are great and great content are your tickets into those sites. But it also helps you to be widely linked to and that includes sites that have PageRank that maybe equal to or even less than yours. These links, while not as much value as the high PR sites, still have value … and there are many more of them. So you need to pay attention to these Backlink sources as well.
In essence, Quality and Quantity Backlinks actually go together. But you can only get both by consistently producing and syndicating great content. Remember, there are no shortcuts and please run away from anyone who tells you otherwise; fast backlinks and fast rankings are never lasting and are just myths and worse.

I have actually seeing a decrease in my presence on the first page of Google since my page rank increased from a 0 to a 3. Clearly, Page Rank is not playing a major role in my actual search results “ranking”…not sure why yet. I think I just need to give it some time.
Another thing worthy of mention on this post is the fact that if you write Quality content, quality readers will link back to your site and these are the best “traffic” generating back-links which are almost as important as the “page-rank” building links.

There are so many articles in the Net regarding backlink but none I found is really helping. I guess like other businesses it is all about capitalism.
All internet experts are just making money out of nothing by providing misleading info.

I would partially disagree with that. While buying links is an option, we at Optimum7 do not encourage it. If you must buy links, make sure that it’s in the format of sponsoring an authority site. Also make sure that those links stay there for at least 8 months. The age of the backlink matters.
We just believe that those dollars spent on buying links are much better spent on writing content and syndication through articles, social media and etc.
I don’t care much about quality.
Just see the website has high PR, I’ll try to get backlink from it. ^_^

I love quality backlink but how can we know which is good quality backlink??
Everything counts!. Start with design, hire a company or freelancer specialized in seo focused website design. Then for a link building campaign from 2000 links at least 30% must be PR3 or +. Good hunting!.
