Increase Your Link Popularity

Increase Your Link PopularityIf you’d like to make your site more visible, one of the primary things you need to do is to increase your link popularity. Link popularity, to put it simply, is a measure of how many legitimate links point to your site, how good those links are, and how much apparent value they add to your site.

Link popularity plays a critical role in determining how visible your site is in the search engines. In fact, some search engines will drop you if you don’t have at least one verifiable link. Note that link popularity is not just the number of links that point towards your site, but also a measure of the quality of those links.

At one time, you may have been able to get away with any old series of links giving you search engine credit, but it’s no longer the case. Don’t waste your time or your money on a “free for all” site. The sites that point to your pages need to be quality sites with real, informative content that is clearly linked to the content of your site by topic. Even the text of the link itself is important.

If it appears that you’re trying to fool the search engines, you may end up further down in the search results than you would have been without the link. So avoid swapping links with non-related sites. A hint: closely related sites may use the same (or similar) keywords to yours.

While the basic idea behind link popularity is that a site with great content will be often linked to, certain sites are held in higher regard and can raise the rankings of the sites that they link to. So that’s something to keep in mind.  Consider you have a website with a low page rank of anywhere from zero to 2 … getting links from websites with Google PageRank of 3+ will improve your relevance for those keywords you are targeting.

We, at Optimum7, are NOT strong proponents of reciprocal linking as we don’t feel that reciprocal links are valued very highly by Google et al.  Rather we focus all our efforts in link building on Backlinks … one way links coming from another website linking directly to highly relevant content on your website.  Google sees this as a strong vote for your website; and, if the site is an “authority” site, and has a good PageRank, all the better for your SEO results.

Check to see who your competitors link to, and who links to them. These are also good prospects. You can also (where allowed) put a link to your site within your signature at topic-related forums.

Get listed in directories. Look for quality, topic-related link lists, and submit your site to those. It’s definitely worth it.

Most importantly, generate good content for your site. No one will want to link to a site without any interesting or helpful information. Site design is important, too. If you’re to request people to tie their business to yours, your site had better be in pretty spectacular shape, because it would reflect badly upon them, if they linked to a poorly maintained site.

Remember, great content is informative, engaging, unique, non-duplicate and targeted to specific keywords.   Great websites are just websites full of great content.
