What Is Online Content?

What is Online Content?Online content consists of textual content, images, audio & video, and games. Content is essential for the success of any online marketing strategy. Unique, relevant and targeted content, on a user friendly website, will go a long way in terms of ranking for relevant terms on major search engines and converting the traffic into sales, leads and business.

Textual Content consists of the following:

1-     Web Copy: This is the content published on websites to describe services or products. It might be geared to sell products or services, or it might be aimed at providing information. Web copy should be accompanied with graphics and images to attract the user and more fully develop your message.

2-     Articles: The sole responsibility of articles is to provide information to the user. Articles can also be syndicated through different channels to get more visitors to the website.

3-     News/Press Releases: Press Releases must include a news announcement and must be newsworthy. A recently introduced product or recent developments are prime material for Press Releases.

4-     Blogs: Blogs have grown into wide acceptance. Today, almost every corporation has a blog they maintain on a daily basis. Blog posts help you get your message to your audience without a third party or a news outlet.

5-     Comments and User Generated Content: Facebook and Myspace are great examples for sites that leveraged from user-generated textual content. You can apply this same idea to your site or business. Remember, there’s an audience for every industry. Provide true value to your readers via your content and they will contribute.

Images consist of the following;

1-     General Images: These could be any type of image such as photos of people, places, objects or animals. It really depends on your services or products. If you sell perfume, you would surely want to include as many images of perfumes, bottles, gift sets, and brands as possible. Users always want to see images; textual descriptions will almost never sell alone.

2-     Graphs & Charts: If you offer financial services, you can definitely take advantage of graphs and charts to illustrate and promote your message to your audience. This type of visual is very beneficial in attracting potential leads.

3-     Cartoons: Portraying your message using different methods is essential in getting more visibility even if it might seem irrelevant at first. Users do not want to read boring text and stare at boring images all the time. Using an amusing cartoon image that explains or offers a certain perspective of relevance goes a long way in getting visibility and can initiate a viral or word-of-mouth marketing affect. You can see examples of this at toons.optimum7.com

4-     Variety: You could do many things with visuals. You can create case studies regarding your services, take photos of projects, clients and etc. The idea here is to cover as many channels as possible because different visitors respond to different types of content whether it is visual, audio, text, animation or any combination thereof.

Audio & Video consist of the following;

1-     Podcasts: Do a weekly podcast that highlights news and recent developments of interest to your audience. It’s just another unique quality you can exhibit vs. your competitors. .   They are very easy to record on any computer and it takes minutes to syndicate it on iTunes.

2-     Introduction Videos: These types of videos are great to introduce your company or a new product / service. They need not be very costly, professional productions, but should convey your message appropriately.

3-     Video Testimonials: If you have very satisfied clients, take advantage of it by asking them to do a video testimonial for you. You can then showcase these videos on your site and even upload them to video sharing sites to get visibility.

4-     Animation Videos: Using an in-house graphics designer or outsourcing for a relatively small sum, produce an animation that explains your services / products to potential prospects in a creative, easy to understand way. It’s all about making sure that your message gets to the right audience. You can see an example of this on our blog.

5-     Videocasts: These could be anything from discussions to a message from the CEO. It would be much more beneficial if videocasts are done biweekly or monthly. You should cover a new topic with each videocast and make sure it has value for the viewers.

Of course, none of this content would make sense without the right execution process and online syndication. We will cover the syndications in the following days with another article dedicated to syndication. In the meantime, contact us if you have any questions.
