I’d give you 3 very simple tasks/suggestions;

1) Make sure that you are using a CMS like WordPress on your site, what is your site built on? It’s very easy to make this switch.
2) Submit your sitemap to Google and Bing.
3) Write and publish at least 2 articles/blog posts each week targeted to your services/products.

Only if you can do the above, you will see very positive results in 90 days. Of course, there’s a lot more you could do but this would be a great starting point for you.

Actually, WordPress does not care about short tags, they won’t sacrifice all the thousands of plugins that use short tags. But, what is true, is that most common servers are configured NOT to allow short tags. Once again, this is a server’s directive, not a WordPress restriction.

If my web site allow me to type in text and save to a file in server, can you show an example how this can be done so that I can continue work either online or offline then auto sync local to server when connection is available.

I repeat: This plugin DOES NOT WORK unless you have “allow_short_open_tag” set to ON in your php.ini. Activation creates a very ugly code output. It’s a coding blunder I have seen on a few plugins.

Another question bug me for long time is: do search engine all follow a set of common rule or code of practice? I heard that the Chinese Baidu does not have a real SEO, it operates as simple pure comercial. Would your authorship work with Baidu?

I had to edit all the PHP files to make it work, because <? is used instead of <?php (short open tag in PHP is not recommended).

The ajax.php file has most of it’s code written using hex codes (statring with \). Is this an attempt to hide what is going on?

I would have thought that this would have fixed the problem, however i am getting the following error “Failed to load resource: the server responded with a status of 500 (Internal Server Error)” in my browsers console.

A few questions.

1. Is there a way to edit an microdata entry already made? After I save it, I see I’ve missed a field and misspelled another one. How can I reopen the editing window and fix that? I think you address this by pointing out how html5 doesn’t yet play well with the edit panel of the posts or page editor. But I’m not sure.

2. I don’t like the default style of the Event microdata outputs. I have access to a css stylesheet that will be read for my pages with these tags. How can I use css to control how it renders. I see that you’ve added your own stylesheet — http://www.nodalpartners.com/wp-content/plugins/microdata-for-seo-by-optimum7/style.css … but for some reason I get 404 on that page. Any suggestions?

I am currently working on creating and IT recipes type website, that I think will be of use to programmers, IT professionals, students and the like. It’s still in its early stages, but I think there is a definite need for online content that doesn’t bamboozle the user too much with technical jargon. Not only that but I intend to keep putting plenty of useful downloadable stuff on there for free, otherwise why else will people even bother?

There is a lot of information out there but in my opinion much of it is just incomprehensible to the intelligent layperson. There is nothing like providing a simple workable example or free download as means of overcoming poor explanations.

FYI Yellow Pages online ads many times around do reflect their ads on print so chances are these numbers are the same. So who’s to say these numbers increase isn’t coming from search engine traffic.

Now if you’re in the Yellow Pages industry and know otherwise, please enlighten me.

What research are you basing this comment on? Print publishers have unique call tracking numbers in many of the ads in the print books and the voume of calls to those print ads are INCREASING, not shrinking.

I have been stuggeling with copywriting ever since I am publishing websites. My main goal in copywriting is to write compelling text for my visitors.

I also see the need for seo in my text, but sometimes I cannot find a good balance between the two.

Sometimes I am writing a piece 6 or 7 times until I am completely satisfied with the results. And even then I have to finetune it later for seo purposes.

Do you think it is more important to write for humans or for the search engines? What is the bigger part here?

I think for any online business it is important to optimize text for search engines, but we must not forget that only humans buy your products.

I don’t recommend trying to go into the CSS and js files right off the bat. Search for wordpress plugins, to do what you’re looking for. Unless you know what you’re doing, finding a good plugin will most likely be far more extensible and well made.

As for the article, superb review! Thank you for not going to a polar side! I always thought wp was better hands down, but I know better as you’ve been the first to effectively articulate it. I’ll probably stick to wp for now as I’m not up for the learning curve and don’t have the immediate need, but I’ll keep it in mind. And understanding the SEO issue has huge importance in my mind. Thanks!

I saw this happen in the print industry. When desktop publishing was just starting out, the businesses who had to do offset printing from computer files fought print designers like myself tooth and nail. They blocked us at every step. They said computer files were inferior, that the knowledge they had was far superior and that the computer could never handle “trapping” or full color separations using traditional analog photographic film processes. Keep in mind the people who did this stuff spent years learning those skills. They were right. It was a priceless skill gained over years of experience.

Needless to say, the print shops who refused to accept our computer generated files or printing films failed because they didn’t or couldn’t afford to invest in the equipment and knowledge needed to support the new technology. I saw many of these shops close down very quickly because they couldn’t compete.

Flash is still “better” or “faster” than HTML5… right now… but… uh… wake up and smell the coffee! A very short time ago HTML5 DIDN’T EXIST. Most browsers didn’t support ANY HTML5 features and barely supported most of the HTML 3 or 4 specs consistently or at all.

HTML 5 has come so far so fast and will only improve. The writing is on the wall. Flash is not the only kid on the block. HTML5 is the new younger kid with some cool tricks that is going to steal Flash’s job.
